Every now and then a new polishing machine comes along that just changes the way that paint correction is performed, and the new RUPES LHR21E is definitely one of them!
The shift to random orbital / dual action polishers for heavy paint correction (and finishing work) has been going on for several years now, and was well documented in my September 2011 article Rotary Compounding – Is It Dead? Back then I said that there would be even new technologies coming out in the D/A polishing world that would change the way that we correct paint. Just a few short months after publishing that article, we were at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, and was introduced to the Rupes LHR21E.
After chatting for quite some time with the kind folks from Rupes, we agreed to be just one of 3 developmental detailers in the USA to spend some time with the machine and provide feedback before it went into production. Well to make a long story short, we absolutely loved the LHR21E, and decided to become one of the select few (definition of Esoteric!) companies to distribute their exciting new product(s).
Where the LHR21E will earn its keep is with time savings…and if you’re a professional detailer or body shop, then you know that time is money! And if you’re an enthusiast who likes to maintain your own car(s), a machine like this will mean that you can spend less time polishing, and more time enjoying your vehicles. The massive 21mm throw on this machine translates into more cutting in less time.
The LHR21E is fantastic for heavy compounding AND for final finishing, and I call it “The King of One-Step Polishing”. When you team a tool like this with a one-step / finishing polish like Sonax Perfect Finish, you’ll be blown away at the level of cut and finish you can achieve in such a short period of time with a one-step polishing process.
The LHR21E is limited to a 6″ backing plate, so it will require the larger 6.5″ pads. When you need to work on smaller areas, you may want to consider the Rupes LHR75 pneumatic.
While the machine is more of an investment than other dual action polishers, it’s well worth it in my professional opinion. Once you see how well it works, you’ll quickly realize that you can make up the extra cost in the very first paint correction job with the time that you save, and the extra amount of correction / finish that you achieve!
RUPES LHR75 Pneumatic Random Orbital Polisher:

The RUPES LHR75 is one of the coolest and most effective polishing machines we have tested in quite some time. The pneumatic random orbital polisher has a huge 15mm throw, which translates into a high level of cut in a very short period of time. Whether you’re working on spot repairs, or tight areas where you need a small machine, the Rupes LHR75 will make quick work of it.
The LHR75 takes 75-85mm pads, and with a large selection available in those sizes, you’ll be covered from high cut to fine finish!
